Let’s face it, medical aesthetics has well and truly taken off. With the rise of social media, celebrity culture, and a general boost in self-care awareness, more people than ever are turning to treatments like dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections, laser, and Profhilo to look and feel their best.

But with this boom in popularity comes a wave of myths and misunderstandings. So, let’s set the record straight and bust a few of the most common myths we hear in clinic!

Myth #1: Medical aesthetic treatments are only for women

This one is way outdated. Yes, women have historically made up the majority of aesthetic clients, but times are changing. More men are now seeking treatments to help them feel confident and refreshed, and we’re all for it! From anti-wrinkle injections to Profhilo and Aqualyx fat-dissolving injections, there are plenty of options tailored to men’s needs.

Myth #2: Medical aesthetic treatments are dangerous

When performed by a qualified professional, medical aesthetics are very safe. Sure, like with any medical procedure, there are potential side effects, like redness, swelling, a little bruising – but these are usually mild and short-lived. The real risks come when treatments are done by underqualified or untrained providers. That’s why all of our treatments are carried out by our doctor and nurse, who have years of experience and a passion for safety and precision. Always do your homework—choose someone qualified, insured, and transparent about their work.

Myth 3#: Medical aesthetic treatments are a quick fix

Some treatments do deliver instant gratification (hello, lip filler!), but others need a little time or repeat treatments for best results. Anti-wrinkle injections, for example, typically last 3–4 months, while dermal fillers can last over a year depending on the area. And treatments like laser or skin boosters often require a course for noticeable, long-lasting improvements. It’s all about setting realistic expectations and trusting the process.

Myth 4#: Dermal fillers are only for older people

Think again! Whilst fillers are fantastic for rejuvenating mature skin – restoring volume, smoothing lines, and lifting features – they’re also popular with younger clients who want to enhance or balance their features. Whether it’s plumping the lips, defining the jawline, or contouring the chin, fillers can be a brilliant option for anyone over 18. Of course, suitability is always assessed during a thorough consultation.

Myth 5#: Medical aesthetic treatments are painful

We get this one a lot, but most treatments are surprisingly comfortable. For injectable procedures like fillers or anti-wrinkle injections, we apply a topical anaesthetic to numb the area beforehand, and many of the products we use also contain lidocaine (a local anaesthetic), which helps make things even easier. Some treatments like laser hair removal can cause a little discomfort, but it’s usually quick and manageable. Most of our patients walk out the door feeling great and ready to get on with their day.

Myth 6#: Dermal fillers are permanent

Not with us! While some providers do use permanent fillers, we don’t usually recommend them, as they can lead to long-term complications and can’t be reversed. At our clinic, we use hyaluronic acid-based fillers, which are temporary and fully reversible. They provide beautiful, natural-looking results and give us the flexibility to tweak and adjust as your face changes over time. Safe, smart, and effective, just how we like it.
