The medical aesthetics industry has boomed over the last few decades, especially with the rise of social media. Now more than ever, people are aware of the different treatments that can boost their confidence. From dermal fillers to anti-wrinkle injections, laser to Profhilo, the options for enhancing your appearance have become seemingly endless! However, many myths have emerged with this increased popularity, revolving around what these treatments are, their quality, and their safety.
Myth #1: Medical aesthetic treatments are only for women
Whilst women may take up the vast majority of medical aesthetic patients, the number of men seeking these treatments is rising every year. More and more people, including men, are thinking about the benefits of looking and feeling their best. There are a range of treatments that can help men to achieve their desired appearance. A few of our most popular treatments include anti-wrinkle injections, Profhilo skin boosters, Aqualyx fat-dissolving injections and laser. Attached you can see one of our male patient’s incredible results from Aqualyx fat-dissolving injections!
Myth #2: Medical aesthetic treatments are dangerous
Like any medical procedure, medical aesthetic treatments carry some level of risk, yet this is drastically reduced when performed by an experienced professional. The most common side effects of injectable treatments are mild and temporary, such as redness, swelling and bruising. However, some procedures can have more serious complications if they are not administered correctly. At the clinic, our medical aesthetic treatments are performed by Dr Anthony and Nurse Jenny who have a wealth of expertise, so you can be confident you’re in safe hands! Remember to prioritise a practitioner who is qualified and insured, can demonstrate their work, and can answer all of your questions.
Myth 3#: Medical aesthetic treatments are a quick fix
Whilst some treatments can create instant results, others may require multiple sessions or ongoing maintenance treatments. For example, dermal fillers can last over 1 year depending on the type of product used and the area that has been treated. By comparison, anti-wrinkle injections last between 3 - 4 months and laser may require several treatments to see significant results. Before having a treatment, it’s important to set yourself realistic expectations, be patient and understand what is achievable for you and your circumstances!
Myth 5#: Medical aesthetic treatments are painful
Although some treatments can be uncomfortable, such as laser hair removal, most are minimally invasive and involve little to no pain. At the clinic, Dr Anthony and Nurse Jenny use a topical anaesthetic to numb the area before performing an injectable treatment, such as anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers. In addition to this, some of our products contain the local anaesthetic lidocaine, which numbs the area once injected. This minimises any discomfort and allows patients to return to their normal routine following treatment.
Myth 4#: Dermal fillers are only for older people
Dermal fillers are often associated with ageing skin due to their rejuvenating capabilities. From replacing lost volume in the face to smoothing deep, static lines, the results can be transformative! However, many younger people seek dermal fillers to enhance their appearance too. Whether the aim is to plump and reshape the lips, define the jawline, or contour the chin, dermal fillers can be a great option for anyone (must be 18 years old +), who would like to improve their features. Still, it’s important to note that not everyone is suitable for dermal fillers, and this will be assessed during an in-person consultation.
Myth 5#: Dermal fillers are permanent
Whilst some clinics opt for permanent dermal fillers, this choice can increase the likelihood of permanent problems! That’s why at our clinic, we only use reversible dermal fillers, which are very effective and a safer option. As with anything, it’s essential to do your research and choose a medical practitioner who can achieve excellent results and mitigate the risk of any complications.
