Our skin is tightened by a structure of collagen fibres in the dermis in a network of skin cells, fibres and blood capillaries.

Below this there is a supporting layer of fatty tissue with strong and elastic collagen fibres and the circulatory system.

As we age, the collagen fibres break down and become less structured and elastic and our repair and replacement systems become less efficient. External factors such as sun (UV) exposure and lifestyle factors can make this worse.

Endymed Skin Tightening

How it works

The Radiofrequency head gently heats up the collagen in the skin, which shortens, causing the overlying skin to become tauter, and tighten. A course of treatment usually consists of 6 sessions, 1 – 2 weeks apart which will tighten the skin, followed by a treatment whenever necessary to maintain the results.

There is also a Fractional Skin Resurfacing (FSR) head, which penetrates more deeply, to produce controlled, fractional epidermal skin resurfacing with simultaneous focused RF dermal heating. This technology is usually used on more mature and photo-aged skin. A course of treatments usually consists of 3 sessions, 4 – 6 weeks apart.

We are really excited about the fabulous results that we have seen using Radiofrequency:

  • Loose skin around the neck can be tightened (improving necklace lines).
  • Jaw lines and jowls can be significantly tightened.
  • Loose skin around the eyes can be really improved.
  • Crepey skin on the cheeks and décolleté can be toned and refreshed.

Often a combination approach is used for full face rejuvenation – combination Fractional Skin Resurfacing & Radio Frequency. The results of both treatments or a combination approach are due to natural changes in the skin, and as such are ongoing and long lasting, but will be enhanced with good evidence-based skincare, UV protection and periodic top-up treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions

A local anaesthetic cream is used, so this treatment is not uncomfortable.

A small amount of flaking or crusting may be evident for a few days following treatment; this is the epidermal resurfacing and normally resolves after 5 -7 days.  Your practitioner will advise you of the post care treatment.

Clients report feeling a warm sensation in the treated area, when the skin reaches a temperature similar to the feeling of a ‘hot stone’ massage. Local anaesthetic can be applied to more sensitive areas before treatment (such as around the eyes), but is not usually required.

Local anaesthetic is used before the Fractional Treatment, as this technology penetrates into deeper layers of the skin. The practitioner evenly covers the treatment area with a series of pulses. Each pulse lasts less than a second and creates tiny, controlled micro skin punctures.

Depending on the size of the area, the treatments take between 30 and 45 minutes.

The benefit of the resurfacing, with a brighter, smoother appearance should be noticeable from one week onwards. At the same time, the dermal heating will be stimulating new collagen which will start to remodel and tighten from 4 – 6 weeks onwards giving a gradual and natural improvement to fine lines, wrinkles and scars.

Ultrasound gel is applied to the skin, and a small hand piece is rotated gently on the skin’s surface.  The skin gradually heats up to a comfortable temperature of about 39-41 Degrees Centigrade, which is maintained for a few minutes in each areas.
